Press Release

Fans selected a new Seiko Prospex diver’s watch reflecting the ever-shifting colors of the sea.

Last year marked the 60th anniversary of the Seiko diver’s watch.  To commemorate this milestone, Seiko held a competition in which its fans selected a new Prospex diver's watch design through a global voting campaign held online and in person. Running from July 1st to 31st, 2025, the campaign engaged Prospex's global enthusiast community. Events marking the 60th anniversary allowed fans to gather and share their passion for Prospex diver's watches.

The four watch designs voted on by fans were all inspired by the ever-shifting colors of the sea and the flow of time from sunrise to sunset. Each design expressed one of four seascape scenes at a different time of day – sunrise, daytime, late afternoon, and sunset. In the end, the most-voted-for design was the one inspired by the seascape illuminated by daytime sunlight, expressed through a vibrant blue dial color inspired by the concept of “Daytime Blue.”
The fan-selected model and dial samples were all
inspired by the ever-shifting colors of the sea.

Inheriting the legacy of a 1965 classic

The 1965 diver's watch
The winning design
Known to fans as the 62MAS, the original diver’s watch introduced by Seiko in 1965 featured an automatic movement and delivered 150 meters of water resistance. Designed for maximum reliability and legibility in the harshest conditions, the watch proved itself up to the challenge when used by Japanese researchers in the Antarctic during the 1960s, setting the stage for the development of future landmark watches.

Powered by the automatic Caliber 6R55, the fan-selected limited edition is based on the original 1965 diver’s watch. Inheriting the legacy of Seiko’s original diver’s watch, the new creation features a timeless, purpose-driven design combined with modern functionality, including 300 meters of water resistance for air diving and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.

Inspired by a daytime seascape

The dial and bezel colors showcase a daytime seascape, with the sea shining in vibrant blue as it reflects sunlight. The pattern draws inspiration from the wave mark and was originally used on two limited-edition models released to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Seiko diver’s watch. The wave mark symbolizes the reliability and technological excellence that define Seiko’s diving heritage. Featured on the case back of the world’s first titanium 600m saturation diving watch introduced in 1975, it has appeared on the case back of Seiko diver’s watches ever since.
The back of the watch is marked “LIMITED EDITION”
and includes the individual number out of 4,500.
The new diver’s watch will be available from October 2026 as a limited edition of 4,500 at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide.
