Seiko introduces the power design project collection.

In 2022, Seiko’s design team revived the “power design project,” an initiative that originally ran from 2001 to 2009. This internal program was conceived to encourage Seiko’s in-house designers to explore design possibilities in a way distinct from their usual style of work. While the power design project aims to spark fresh creative thinking with an element of fun and surprise, it is, at its core, an extension of the pioneering spirit already present in Seiko’s rich archive, where breakthroughs in both design and technology have long defined the brand’s watchmaking legacy.
Upon the initiative’s revival, the project returned with renewed energy, aiming to propose fresh and unconventional concepts that break free from traditional norms. The theme chosen for this inaugural return was REBIRTH. Seven timepieces from Seiko’s extensive historical archive were reimagined from a modern perspective, each showcasing the creativity and forward-thinking vision of the design team.
Today, one of the standout pieces from the 2022 power design project is reborn as a limited-edition Seiko timepiece and is being introduced as the first watch in the new power design project collection.
A landmark timepiece, reimagined with a new purpose

The new creation is inspired by a 1984 model that was widely acclaimed in Japan and known as the Tissé. While the original watch was worn more as an accessory than a conventional timepiece, it stood out for its significance in both design and technology. At its heart was the world’s smallest quartz movement at the time, developed by Seiko. This ultra-compact movement enabled a dramatically reduced case diameter, resulting in a minimalist, bead-like form. It also introduced a new way of wearing watches, known as “loose fit,” which became a popular trend in Japan.

Though the original was designed for women, the new creation has been reimagined to transcend traditional ladies’ watch design, embracing broad tastes and preferences for all wearers. Its refined texture, elegant finishing, and harmonious proportions convey a sense of universal beauty. The uniquely asymmetrical bracelet features differently sized links on the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock sides, symbolizing the individuality of those who wear it, while staying true to the original "loose fit" concept introduced in 1984.

The bracelet links on the 12 o’clock side are designed to closely match the case size and form, creating a unified look and a lightness reminiscent of a fashion accessory. However, the combination of brushed finishing and mirror polishing adds a refined, subtle shine that emphasizes the sophisticated elegance of a wristwatch, distinguishing it from typical bracelets or accessories. This nuanced finishing provides the watch with a distinct character, setting it apart from the original Tissé design. The flat surfaces of the brushed links add a crisp, architectural edge to the bracelet’s otherwise rounded form.

In contrast, the bracelet on the six o’clock side is composed of small, fully polished round links. Among them, the third link stands out with its multifaceted shape and sharply angled point, serving as a visual accent to the bracelet’s overall composition.
The new creation is offered in three variations: silver-tone, black, and gold-tone. The hour and minute hands now feature a plated, mirror-polished finish that matches the dial color of each variation, enhancing both legibility and visual depth. Unlike the original Tissé, the new models include 12 hour markers on the dial, reinforcing their identity as both functional wristwatches and refined accessories.
The new watches will be available at Seiko Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide as limited editions of 500 each, starting from December 2025.
