The Caliber 8R Series.

Designed for maximum precision
in every aspect.

All watches are powered by Caliber 8R46, the brand’s most advanced automatic chronograph movement for mechanical watches. This caliber incorporates both vertical clutch and column wheel mechanisms which ensure the precision and durability. The escapement is lightweight and strong, thanks to the use of MEMS technology which enhances the stability of the watch's precision. With the push of the reset button, the hands return back to zero instantly and in perfect synchronization.

Finding inspiration in Seiko’s heritage, a new Speedtimer mechanical chronograph design is born in Prospex. The creation captures the character of a celebrated Speedtimer design from 1972.

  • Case & Bracelet

The new case and bracelet are produced using Seiko’s latest watchmaking technologies to create a classic and refined construction. The case feature vertical hairline finishing, and the bracelet is designed for comfort on the wrist.

  • Dial

The highly legible panda-style dial with an orange-tipped chronograph seconds hand are all design cues inherited from the 1972 creation.

Original model

The charcoal-gray dialed Speedtimer is inspired from Seiko's and Japan's first chronograph wristwatch, the Crown Chronograph from 1964. The 1964 Crown Chronograph was designed from scratch and it marked the beginning of Seiko's chronograph wristwatch manufacturing. It had a simple one-push mechanism but it amply demonstrated the same commitment to precision as would Caliber 6139 and all its successors with the inclusion of a column wheel to control the start, stop and reset functions.

  • Dial

The dial design is a subtle nod to the 1964 Crown Chronograph. Its beveled hour markers, sharp hour and minute hands with colored Lumibrite, its chronograph pushers and markers on the outer dial ring echo the design of the original.
The chronograph second hand is gently curved down towards the dial so that the tip of the hand is as close as possible to the dial's markers and extends to the tachymeter markings at the very edge of the dial, thus ensuring that elapsed time can be read accurately at a glance.

  • Push buttons

The construction of the chronograph pushers ensure the high level of operability crucial to a Prospex sports watch.

  • Bracelet

The watch is presented on a stainless steel bracelet that is specially designed and constructed for the series. Its thickness, weight and low center of gravity ensure stability and a high level of comfort on the wrist.

Original model

1969 Speedtimer
The new Speedtimer chronograph takes inspiration from the 1969 Speedtimer, an important landmark in the history of chronograph watchmaking. Applying the technology invented for Seiko's stopwatches, the 1969 Speedtimer was the world's first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch. These two devices made the measurement of elapsed time more precise and error-free than ever before. The new model is to be the signature of the Speedtimer series. It inherits the innovative technology of the original model while achieving further evolution as a time measuring instrument.

  • Dial

The blue and red colors inspired by the 1969 Speedtimer are applied so that elapsed time can be read accurately at a glance. The dial has vertical hairline finishing and as the angle of vision changes, the dial turns from navy to vivid blue. Every detail of the watch reflects the high level of precision and performance of the watch as a time measuring instrument. The outer dial ring and sub-dial are in white so they stand out prominently against the blue dial to enhance legibility. The chronograph seconds hand is gently curved by hand for precise time measuring.

  • Optional Strap

The bracelet can be replaced with a black leather strap whose stitching is designed to increase the strap's durability

Original model

The latest Speedtimer chronograph takes inspiration from Seiko's first stopwatch designed for timing winter sports. As the official timing device at a major sporting event held in Sapporo in 1972, the original stopwatch’s features were tailored for winter conditions. These included a black dial for high legibility during competitions conducted on snow.

  • Dial & Case

The color scheme of the new Speedtimer is inspired by the original stopwatch of 1972.
The red indexes and chronograph sub-dial at 9 o‘clock enhance legibility against the matte, sandblasted black dial, which reduces the reflection of light from the sun and snow. The theme continues with the stainless steel case thanks to the use of black hard coating.

  • Strap

The watch is presented on a matte black crocodile strap with stitching designed to increase durability.
