In 1881, Kintaro Hattori opened a shop known as "K. Hattori" in Tokyo’s Ginza district, beginning what would evolve into today’s Seiko. Guided by a philosophy to be “Always one step ahead of the rest,” he went on to produce Japan’s first wristwatch in 1913.
Building on its founding spirit, Seiko experienced a period of rapid transformation in the 1960s. During this decade, the company introduced numerous breakthroughs, including Japan’s first chronograph wristwatch in 1964, its first diver’s watch in 1965, and the world’s first quartz wristwatch in 1969. The decade also saw the introduction of Seiko Blue, a signature color, refined over time to the present day, that reflects Seiko’s pioneering spirit.
Following this legacy, a new limited-edition timepiece joins the Seiko Presage Classic Series. Commemorating Seiko’s 145th anniversary, the watch features an exquisite Arita porcelain dial rendered in cobalt blue in tribute to Seiko Blue.
A delicate expression of Japanese craftwork
The new timepiece is distinguished by an Arita porcelain dial with a glaze in cobalt blue, a traditional hue of Arita ware. Presented for the first time in a Presage creation, this deep color posed an unprecedented challenge for the Presage team to achieve on a slim dial.
Created under the supervision of Arita porcelain master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, each dial is meticulously crafted by Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team at a historic Arita manufacturer with roots dating back to 1830. Kawaguchi honed his expertise in this highly intricate process under Hashiguchi’s guidance.
Beyond the complexity of developing the glaze itself, particular care was taken to ensure the dial’s finely molded pattern is expressed in its full beauty. Through extensive refinement, the glaze was carefully balanced so that the underlying pattern is neither overly pronounced nor obscured, achieving an ideal tone across the dial’s surface.
The production of each watch dial consists of a multi-stage process that requires precisely controlled molding and firing procedures and involves great skill and patience. To give the dial the strength required for a watch, the artisans use a type of Arita porcelain specially formulated to be more than four times stronger than traditional porcelain. A very precise casting mold is used to achieve the difficult task of imparting the meticulous pattern. Subtle variations may be present in each dial due to the intricate production process, lending every timepiece a distinct character and individuality.
A new case design embodying timeless beauty
The timepiece introduces a newly developed case design that enhances the depth and dimensionality of the Arita porcelain dial, capturing the understated elegance of the Seiko Presage Classic Series. Paired with a dual-curved sapphire crystal, the watch achieves a clean and refined profile.
The watch is powered by the mechanical Caliber 6R51, which offers a power reserve of 72 hours and features a strap made with leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.* In both technology and refined craftwork, the new creation exemplifies the very best of Seiko’s modern watchmaking.
The watch will be available as a limited edition of 1,500 at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide from July 2026.

A classically inspired creation, drawn from the elegance of silk
A second timepiece also joins the Seiko Presage Classic Series in celebration of Seiko’s 145th anniversary. Drawing inspiration from silk, which has long been cherished in traditional Japanese culture, the dial features a finely rendered, silk-like texture that conveys quiet refinement.
Its hue is inspired by shironeri, an immaculate white born from the refining of silk threads. Its untinted and pristine whiteness evokes a sense of new beginnings, making it an especially fitting expression for this commemorative creation.
The hands and indexes are gently curved to follow the contour of the dial, creating a harmonious sense of unity. Their blue tone, inspired by Seiko Blue, introduces a striking contrast against the dial’s serene white surface.
The compact 36mm case is defined by soft, flowing curves, lending it a warm, classical presence on the wrist. A delicately decorated bezel further enhances the classical design.
The watch is also powered by Caliber 6R51, offering a power reserve of three days. As with the Arita porcelain creation, the watch features a strap made with leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.
The new creation will be available as a limited edition of 2,500 at select retail stores worldwide from June 2026.
