For those whose lives are dedicated to sailing and racing on the high seas, Seiko created Velatura, a marine collection which pays homage to their skill, bravery and dedication.

First developed in consultation with leading sailors in Europe, Australia and Canada, the Velatura collection now comprises a wide range of timepieces suitable for all sailing situations, from the high speed racing of the 49er skiff to the more leisurely voyages of the cruise liner.

To learn of the needs of the most demanding sailors, Seiko supports the International 49er Class, the fastest boat in the Olympic regatta and its sister class, the 29er XX class, a new class of high-performance skiff that is built for women’s racing, and is on the verge of Olympic recognition.

The Velatura 49er Class chronograph leads the collection. With its 1/5 second stopwatch function, carbon fiber dial, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and strong urethane band, it is ready to race at high speed, whatever the conditions.

For several years, Seiko has supported the International 49er Association with a package of financial, developmental and equipment support. For 2009, this partnership has been renewed, and a similar agreement with the “sister” class, the 29erXX, has been signed. Seiko now supports the fastest and most exciting skiff sailing classes for both men and women.
