Manga, Galante, Japan and SEIKO.
March 30, 2011

The SEIKO stand at Baselworld is unmistakably Japanese in its design, content and theme. With the Katana-inspired Ananta on one side, with the Myochin wind bell inspired Minute Repeater on the other and with a beautiful bamboo sculpture hanging in the atrium, the ancient traditions of Japan are very much to the fore.

However, there is an equally interesting modern side to Japan and that, too, is reflected in the SEIKO stand.

For some years, the SEIKO Galante collection has been attracting the attention of a special group of Japanese consumers a passion for the modern, unusual and idiosyncratic character of modern Japan. The new 2011 model features the popular 'Manga' character from Japan, 'Black Jack' on the dial. Black Jack was created by Osamu Tezuka, the legendary 'Manga' artist. He also created the famous 'Atom' (Astro Boy), which Galante featured in the 2010 collection. In contrast with brighter character of Atom, Black Jack is perceived as a hero of darkness. The two models are displayed side by side in the window, and the both are equipped with a mechanical movement with an open-heart dial.
