Basel Report

Press Day
March 17, 2010

March 17th. Press Day at Basel. The exhibitors at Baselworld opened their doors to the media at noon. As the journalists walked the familiar halls, there was a new sense of expectation in the air. It was as if the journalists were not just looking to see what was new, but were also looking to see which brands were looking strong and which were weaker. We live in interesting times!

At the SEIKO stand, "The Cube", we welcomed old friends and met new faces and, if the number of media visitors who dropped in is any guide, Baselworld 2010 will be a success. The exterior of the SEIKO stand has not changed, but the interior has something new. The bright ‘crystal canyon' decorated with 20,000 crystals leads the visitor to the center of the stand where the dark stone walls rise up vertically around you. This year, the Stone Square feels more mysterious. It's a bit darker and, as your eyes adjust, you will find that you are in moon light! A moon is projected on the wall and it slowly reveals its phases. In the center of Stone Square, you find a mysterious cone shaped object.

What is it all about?

All will be revealed at the Press Conference tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
